Little is known about Fontana other than the fact that he was born in Brescia and died in 1630. It has been assumed that he was a Neapolitan like his better-known contemporary Giovane Domenico da Nola. Fontana s little collection did have some influence however, for many of his pieces were drawn upon by later composers including, Donato, Barges, Scandello and even Lassus himself.
