I cannot resist admiring the beautiful cantability in every part of this pure five part movement. The quality of the top part is as splendid and well modelled as a solo part. The last bars of the second part are full of good and modern ideas. -Mattheson, Der volkommene Capellmeister, published in 1739. A valuable addition for the recorder ensemble repertoire.
