This is a song of ecstatic joy and delight in the promise of the coming Messiah. Joseph Martin has masterfully joined two popular Advent carols, “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus” and “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day,” in an exciting quodlibet with a fantastic tenor solo. “Songs of the Promise,” from the cantata Canticle of Joy, is a fresh, lilting anthem of joyful anticipation – a nice change from the more somber, longing, “waiting in darkness” hymns often sung during Advent. The promise will be fulfilled, and this exuberant choral expresses sheer, unbridled happiness!
