Shamo (1925-1982) was a Ukranian composer, known for his song "My Kiev," which became the official anthem of that city. His music is now undergoing a post-Soviet-Union revival, thanks to his daughter Tamara Shamo and his champion, pianist Dimitri Tchesnokov. The latter has recorded Shamo's complete piano works for Piano Classics, including the Tableaux de peintres russes (Pictures by Russian Painters). These are perfect pianistic gems, each a descriptive miniature of high lyrical quality and ingenious accompaniments.
