The Latvian composer Arturs Maskats wrote his 12-minute Tango for large orchestra comprising triple wind (including saxophones) and brass, an extensive percussion section, harp, celeste, harpsichord, bandoneon and strings. It was performed at the final of the 3rd international symphonic composition competition Masterprize in London in 2003 and has been described as 'seeming to vibrate on a hot pole'.
The focus of the composer's creative life is the theatre: he has written original scores for nearly 100 theatre productions and has also composed scores for films.
This full score (EP 73400) is now available as part of the Peters Baltic Library.
