The present pieces are taken from an anonymous manuscript dating from about 1700 and entitled "Regles Ires faciles pour apprandre a jouer de la Flute". Apart from containing a short survey of the rudiments of music this work also includes a collection of pieces. A number of these have been played together to form suites. These pieces of music do not evidently originate from the author of the practice book and instead consistute settings from operas familiar at the time.
