John Hilton, who was born in Cambridge in 1599 and died in 1657. The AYRES OR FA LAS which he dedicated to his professor, William Heather, appeared in 1627. He composed mainly secular songs, above all, catches, rounds and canons, which were so popular at that period. InThe AYRES OR FA LAS are madrigals in the style of Gastoldi, Morley and Schein.
