The MUSICAL OFFERING (MUSIKALISCHES OPFER), BWV 1079/ Op. 6 was written by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) in 1747 based on a theme provided to him by King Frederick II (Frederick the Great) of Prussia on the occasion of Bach meeting the monarch while C.P.E. Bach was in the king's employment as a court musician. In three parts, this TRIO SONATA (SONATA SOPR' IL SOGGETTO REALE A TRAVERSA, VIOLINO E CONTINUO) constitutes the middle one. Originally written for flute (or violin), violin, and continuo, this edition by Friedrich Hermann offers both the harpsichord and a cello part for the continuo. Reprint edition.
