Johann Gottlieb (brother of the composer Carl Heinrich Graun) was born in Wahrenbrueck (Germany) on October 27, 1703. He studied with J. G. Pisendel in Dresden, and with Giuseppe Tartini in Prague, and he taught the violin to J. S. Bach's son Wilhelm Friedemann. He joined the court of the Prussian crown prince (who later became Frederick the Great) in 1732, and was made Konzertmeister of the Berlin Opera in 1740. Johann Gottlieb Graun died on October 28, 1771.
