Description: Introduction to toccatina style bass pattern;
legato/staccato touches;
contrasting dynamics on repeat patterns;
and also uses a coda passage at the end.
Purpose: A practice in coordination: playing various melodic patterns against a repeating toccatina bass pattern.
Suggestions for Instruction: I would start by having the student play the left-hand pattern to show consistency. The bass will be found in two different positions. The piece returns to the familiar pattern of mm. 3-14 after each new idea; similar to a rondo. I also point out the 5-finger pattern fingering (right-hand) when applicable.
Key: E minor
