Twelve Canzonas - sc. Contributors: Banchieri/Bonelli. Recorder Quartets (SATB). Score. Publisher's category: Recorder Quartets.
The two musicians represented in this volume were both closely associated with the musical life of Bologna around the turn of the seventeenth century. Adriano Banchieri (1567-1634) was by far the better-known of the two: he was a prolific composer who produced a large amount of music in all the main forms of his age.
Aurelio Bonelli is a more obscure figure about whom practically nothing is known. According to the title-page of his canzonas he was a native of Bologna. When Banchieri went off to Imola in 1601 it was Bonelli who got his job.. Thanks to Denis Carpenter for the sound sample.
