This piece was composed for the Montana Saxophone Festival and is dedicated to the festival's director, saxophonist Brooke Ferris; it was premiered there in 1997 by a quartet that included the international virtuoso, Frederick Hemke. The first movement, Calliope, juxtaposes mechanized rhythmic patterns against legato, lyric melodies. The second movement, Chorale, explores homophonic textures by alternating between lyric and contrapuntal passages. The last  movement is a Fugue.
